UP Assembly Election 2022: Today is the fifth round of Uttar Pradesh’s electoral riots. In this round of assembly elections, today 693 candidates in 61 assembly seats in 12 districts will try their best to get the blessings of the voters of democracy. The 12 districts where citizens will exercise their most important democratic rights are: Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Barabanki, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Amethi, Gonda, Rae Bareli, Bahraich, Shravasti and Sultanpur. Assembly elections are being held in Uttar Pradesh in a total of seven phases. That is, after the completion of today’s voting, two rounds of voting will be left.
What happened in the 2017 elections on these 61 seats?
Today i.e. on Sunday 27 February, out of the 61 seats where voting is going on, in the last assembly elections, BJP won 47, while 3 seats went to the BJP’s ally Apna Dal (Sonelal). Samajwadi Party had registered 5 seats and Bahujan Samaj Party on 3 seats. The Congress got only one of these seats, while one seat went to Raja Bhaiya, an independent candidate called Bahubali, and the other to his close aide Vinod Sonkar.
today’s giants
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is also among the veterans whose political fate has to be decided by the voters of Uttar Pradesh in the fifth round of voting. Maurya is contesting from Sirathu seat, where he is pitted against Pallavi Patel, leader of Samajwadi Party ally Apna Dal (Communist). Pallavi is the sister of Union Minister Anupriya Patel. Apart from Keshav Prasad Maurya, the political future of many other ministers of the Yogi government is also to be decided today. These include Siddharthnath Singh, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, Ramapati Shastri, Rajendra Pratap Singh alias Moti Singh. Voting is also to be held in the constituency of famous Bahubali Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya today.
What is the challenge before whom?
The challenge before the BJP is to repeat its previous performance, so in the 2017 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party, which won only 5 of these 61 seats and the BSP, which won 3 seats, has a chance to regain its lost ground. Today’s polling also includes districts like Prayagraj, Amethi and Rae Bareli, which were once considered a strong Congress stronghold. But in the last election, getting only 1 seat out of 61 was a big setback for the party. It remains to be seen how Priyanka Gandhi’s leadership of the party in Uttar Pradesh affects the performance of the Congress in the elections.
