Union Minister Narayan Rane on Thursday launched a wide range of Khadi products. MMME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) Minister Rane has launched a slew of Khadi items including baby wear and handmade slippers at Khadi India’s flagship showroom in New Delhi. These products include sleeveless vests, frocks, bloomers and nappies for newborns and children up to two years of age. They are made from 100% hand made material. Its hand woven cotton fabric is soft and sensitive to baby’s skin so that it will not cause rashes and skin irritation. The Union Minister has also launched hand made paper slippers which are according to ‘use and throw’. This type of ‘use and throw’ slippers have been designed for the first time in the country. These are completely eco friendly and cost effective.

A pair of slippers will be available for Rs 50
Hand made paper has been used to make slippers. It is completely wood-free and made from natural fibers like cotton, torn old clothes and agro waste. These slippers are very light in weight and perfect for travel and places like home, hotel rooms, hospitals, places of worship and labs. According to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the cost of Khadi cotton baby wear is Rs 599 per piece while the cost of a pair of slippers has been kept at Rs 50.

Emphasis on making eco-friendly and sustainable products
Union Minister Rane, who took charge of the MSME ministry this week, has emphasized on making eco-friendly and sustainable products. Rane said that with aggressive marketing, the demand for Khadi products can be increased among the people. Efforts should be made to bring it in the budget of all types of people. Apart from this, the Union Minister has asked KVIC to provide maximum employment opportunities for the youth.
