World-class station
As part of the plan to build a world-class station on PPP model, work is going on at some railway stations in the country and some places are in an advanced stage. It is good that private companies have shown interest in it and the government got many applications in the initial stage itself. At present, the work of development at Bhopal’s Habibganj railway station has progressed in several stages. It is expected to be completed soon. Apart from this, work has also started on Gandhi Nagar railway station. The same facilities will be provided at these stations, as found at the airport. These include preparing to open from the shopping mall to multiplex.
Preparations have also begun to redevelop the New Delhi railway station. After redevelopment, passengers at New Delhi Railway Station are elevated concourse, driver and departure gate, refurbish platform, launch, food court, restroom, elevated road network, multiple entry and exit points, multi level car parking, green building, natural ventilation and lighting, Budget Hotel, Five Star Hotel and other facilities. The entire development is to be on about 30 acres of land.
Apart from this, the government has received many applications from private companies for the redevelopment of Nagpur, Gwalior, Amritsar and Sabarmati stations. Work on these too is to start soon. Further, there are about 60 stations in this list, including stations like Surat, Kanpur, Hyderabad, Indore and Asansol.
Private trains
The government’s plan to run private trains has received a strong response from private companies. Many big companies are involved in the race to run private trains in India. 120 applications were received for operating a private train. Of these, 102 applications have been found to be eligible. These include big names like Larsen and Toubro (L&T), GMR, Welspun. There are other big names in this race, whose applications have been found eligible. In fact, in order to provide world-class facilities to the railway passengers, soon the railway is going to run 151 private trains on selected routes of the country. Under this special scheme of the government, from March 2023, 12 private trains will be derailed. By 2027, their number will be increased to 151, which is 5 percent of the total trains.
2 Tejas trains in the country right now
IRCTC currently operates three private trains in the country. Which includes Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express. The first Tejas was launched in October 2019 and the second Tejas in January 2020. No other Tejas trains could run after January 2020 due to long-term operation of the railway due to Coronavirus epidemic. Apart from this, there is Kashi-Mahakal Express on Varanasi-Indore route. These three are private trains. Currently, due to Corona, its operation was braked.
Railway farmer
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the 100th Kisan Rail from Sangola in Maharashtra to Shalimar in West Bengal. The Railway Farmer’s Declaration was made in 2020. Farming farmers are being connected by rail through the rail farmers. Through this train, fruits, vegetables, milk and such essential products are being transported to the mandis as soon as possible. This train has a refrigerator facility so that fruits and vegetables are not spoiled. Indian Railways started the first Kisan Rail on 7 August this year.
Back off target due to lockdown
Apart from this, the work of installing free Wi-Fi at the stations is going on fast. There are also plans to install large solar power capacity on the rail track. However, electrification due to coronavirus is behind the target.
