The Income Tax Department (IT Raid) has detected tax evasion of crores of rupees by raiding a group working in digital marketing work associated with Congress party and firms associated with campaigning management. Sources in the IT department told The Indian Express that some companies were working to create a political campaign for the Congress on digital platforms. According to PTI, the department carried out this raid on October 12 in several states including Karnataka.
According to the newspaper, the recent raids by the Income Tax Department on digital marketing and campaigning management firms in the states have revealed unaccounted investment of Rs 7 crore and fraudulent expenditure of about Rs 70 crore. In a press statement issued on Sunday, the department said that raids were conducted at 7 places in Bengaluru, Surat, Chandigarh and Mohali.

A source told the newspaper that the raids were conducted at the office of Designboxed Creative Pvt Ltd, an image consultancy firm hired by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar based in Bengaluru. The agency claimed to have found evidence to substantiate their involvement in the crime, which suggests that the group made fake business entries with the help of an entry operator.
The first group is associated with digital marketing and campaigning management and raids were conducted at seven locations, including campuses located in Bengaluru, Surat, Chandigarh and Mohali, the statement said. It said that the entry operator has admitted to the transfer of cash and unaccounted income to the group through hawala operators.
In a statement issued by the department, it has been said that many incriminating documents have been recovered during the raids. It further states that evidence has been found which shows that this group was involved in the work of fraudulent bills of expenses and sub-contracting. According to preliminary estimates, fraudulent expenditure of about Rs 70 crore was shown in this way.
The CBDC said that during the raids on all the firms, unaccounted assets worth about Rs 7 crore were detected and unaccounted cash of Rs 1.95 crore and jewelery worth Rs 65 lakh were seized.
