Lucknow. Two Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs, including Nitin Agarwal, who was elected Deputy Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in collaboration with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have resigned. Samajwadi Party MLA Nitin Agarwal from Hardoi Sadar seat and Sharad Veer Singh, SP MLA from Jalalabad seat of Shahjahanpur have resigned from the primary membership of the party. Nitin also resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. In this regard, he has sent his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Assembly.
In his resignation letter sent to SP President Akhilesh Yadav, he has said that he is resigning from the primary membership of the party. Nitin was elected as the MLA of SP from Hardoi Sadar seat in the 2017 assembly elections. His father, former minister Naresh Agarwal had joined the BJP in 2018. Since then Nitin too had become a rebel. Nitin was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in October last year with the help of the BJP government of the state. At that time he had not resigned from the SP.
Nitin Agarwal, who shared the stage with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during BJP’s Jan Vishwas rally, is likely to contest from Hardoi Sadar seat on a BJP ticket in the upcoming assembly elections of the state. Meanwhile, Sharad Veer Singh has resigned from the party after getting angry over his ticket being cut this time. In his resignation letter that went viral on social media, Singh alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP party has deviated from the policies of founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.
SP MLA Sharad Veer Singh told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ over phone that his ticket has been cut and given to Neeraj Maurya, so he has resigned from the SP. When asked about the discussions about joining the BJP, Singh said that he has not yet taken the membership of the BJP but has applied for a ticket. If the party gives him a ticket, he will contest the election, otherwise whoever gets the BJP ticket, will help him in the election. “Our aim is to defeat Samajwadi Party candidate Neeraj Maurya at any cost. Our supporters have the same suggestion.”

Singh said in his resignation letter, “I joined the Samajwadi Party in 1995 after being influenced by the policies of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and have been serving in Jalalabad region continuously since 1996, but now under your (Akhilesh Yadav) leadership, Samajwadi Party Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) policies.”
He said in the letter, “My ticket has been cut by AAP and given to a candidate (Neeraj Maurya) who had tortured traders and all sections of the society to earn money during the tenure of BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), that is why I take your decision. Being hurt by this, I am resigning from the membership of SP.
It is worth mentioning that this time SP has cut the ticket of MLA Sharad Veer Singh from Jalalabad assembly seat of Shahjahanpur and given it to Neeraj Maurya. Maurya is considered close to former minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who recently left the BJP. (agency)
