Mumbai: A special NIA court here on Friday sentenced two residents of Mumbai to eight years’ imprisonment, found guilty of promoting the ideology of West Asian terrorist organization ISIS. Mohsin Syed (32) and Rizwan Ahmed (25) had confessed to the charges of joining ISIS and trying to influence youth.
Special Judge AT Wankhede had earlier this week convicted him of conspiracy under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and being a member of or supporting a banned terrorist organisation. He was also convicted of criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code.

The court on Friday sentenced them to eight years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35-35 thousand on all. She said the time the two have served in prison since their arrests in 2016 would be adjusted against their sentences.
Syed and Ahmed, who have been in jail since their arrests, had moved a special court last month to confess their crime. According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), four youths from Malwani area of Mumbai had left their homes to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) under the guise of these two convicts.
