Mumbai: Mayor Kishori Pednekar has reacted sharply to the BJP’s question of naming the penguin born in Veermata Jijamata Bhosale Zoological Park (Ranibagh) in English. BJP leader Chitra Wagh had tweeted and questioned why Penguin’s child was named Oscar in Ranibagh. Didn’t get a Marathi name to name the mayor? Responding to the criticism made by Chitra Wagh, Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that if she is saying, then we are going to come to Ranibagh with the children of two animals, out of which the elephant’s baby will be named Champa and the monkey’s child will be named Chiva.
The mayor said that we are working for the general public. It’s not fair to criticize at a lower level just for the sake of protest. We have named Vaghini’s cub as ‘Veer’ and Penguin’s baby as Oscar. The names of all the penguins kept in Ranibagh are in English only. We will name the new creatures Champa and Chiva as suggested by Chitra Wagh.
