70 percent loss of chili
There is a sown area of 48 thousand hectares in the tehsil. The area under chilli is 2,000 hectares and that of tur is 4,000 hectares. Due to excessive rainfall this year, the outbreak of fungal diseases has increased. Due to cheating of cotton crop last year, sowing of tur and chilli has increased this year. The roots have dried up due to the fungus and there is an outbreak of disease on both the crops.
The ends of the tur have also started drying up. Farmers say that 70 per cent chillies and 50 per cent turi have been spoiled. Other crops have also suffered due to heavy rains, but the government is looking at the farmers with a crooked eye.
