GPS based toll collection: For the movement of vehicles in the country, the central government has taken a big decision. Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in Parliament on 18 March that India will be freed from the dams and obstacles within the next 1 year. That is, the country will become toll-free in 1 year. He said that during this time FASTag will be fully implemented. Now Global Positioning System (GPS) system will be installed in trains, with the help of which toll charges can be paid. He said that further those who will not put FASTag on the vehicles, it will be believed that they are stealing tolls. At the same time, it will also be considered a matter of not giving GST.
All toll booths will end
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that right now about 93 percent of the vehicles in the country are paying toll through FASTag. But it is yet to be imposed in 7 per cent. Whereas the toll has been doubled in the absence of FASTag. Toll booth removal work will be completed in one year. He has given this information during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. Gadkari said there are flaws in the toll system. Now GPS system will be installed in trains, with the help of which toll charges can be paid and after this such toll booths will not be required.
FASTag mandatory
The central government has made FASTag mandatory on all toll plazas in the country. The use of FASTag has increased significantly during the last few months. After the imperative of FASTag, fuel consumption has come down. This will also help in controlling pollution. Gadkari believes that using GPS technology for toll collection, the government’s toll income will be Rs 1,34,000 crore in the next 5 years.
Let me tell you that in December last year, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said in a program to free India from tolls and obstacles. He said that the government is going to finalize the GPS. Further, the toll of the vehicles will be deducted only from your linked bank account. He said that the work on GPS system for tolls is going on. Let us know that the government is also working fast to install GPS system technology in all old vehicles.
Green highway approved
Gadkari said that the green highway between Raipur to Visakhapatnam has been approved, work has started. Work is expected to be completed in about one and a half years. This will benefit the people of many states. In response to another question, he said that without acquiring 90 per cent of the land, we do not award the project. After acquiring the land, a detailed project report (DPR) is prepared.
At the same time, the Union Minister said that stopping road accident is our priority. More people die in road accidents than COVID. At the same time, he said that in 5 years, India will be the world’s largest automobile hub, work is going on on such schemes.
