Nagpur. For almost a month, professors of medical colleges have been agitating for the demand to implement the recommendation of the Karmarkar committee. On Thursday, the Secretary of the Medical Education and Research Department threatened to sack the agitating professors in the meeting. Angry professors across the state have decided to organize a mass holiday movement on Friday. Also, the Maharashtra Medical Teachers Association has banned the Medical Education Secretary.
The Karamkar committee has made various recommendations including increasing the various allowances of medical teachers. But it is not being implemented by the government. Due to this, the professors, associate professors and assistant professors of all the medical colleges of the state have to bear the financial loss. Angry with this policy of the government, the professors resigned from the post of postgraduate guide a month ago. Because of this, the postgraduate classes were closed.
In this regard, the delegation of Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association met the secretary of the medical department on Thursday. During this, he also discussed his demands with the secretary. This meeting was predetermined and time was taken.
use of official language
During the meeting, the secretary used non-official language by insulting the members of the organization. Threatened to sack doctors respected as Corona warriors. The incident has been opposed by the professors of medical colleges across the state. The major demands of the professors include giving anti-business allowance like AIIMS, giving postgraduate and educational allowance on the lines of AIIMS, increasing risk allowance etc.
From treating patients to teaching, professors do the work. There is a difference in the salary of central and state professors. It should be done away with. Even today professors are deprived of various allowances. The Karmarkar committee was constituted by the government but why the recommendations are not being implemented. The degrading behavior by the authorities is condemnable.
