Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP and actor Deepak Adhikari appeared before CBI officials here on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the probe into an animal smuggling racket operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal.
A source gave this information. The Trinamool Congress MP is known as Dev, which is his name on the screen. A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) source said that Dev’s name had cropped up several times during the interrogation of the accused in the case.
“Dev appeared before our officials at the Nizam’s Palace office here as he was summoned in connection with the cattle smuggling case,” the source said. they are being interrogated.”
The CBI had earlier questioned several people, including Bikash Mishra, brother of Binay Mishra, a businessman allegedly involved in the racket and considered close to the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The agency had also questioned the main accused Inamul Haque in the case.
Both Bikash Mishra and Haque were taken into custody by the CBI and Haque was later granted bail by the Supreme Court. Bikash Mishra was arrested by Enforcement Directorate, another central agency, from Delhi on March 16 last year. The ED is probing the money laundering aspect of the case.
An arrest warrant was issued against Binay Mishra for absconding in the animal smuggling case. Both the central agencies had earlier raided the residence of Mishra and his brother. It is alleged that cattle smugglers used to bribe Border Security Force (BSF) and customs officials to run their illegal business.
