A secret unit of Guantanamo Bay Jail has been closed by America. The prisoners sentenced here have been sent to a prison located at another US base in Cuba. The US military has given information about this. The US Southern Command said in a statement, that the prisoners lodged in Camp 7 have been sent to another prison located near it. The reason behind this is to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.
The Miami-based Southern Command did not say how many inmates were kept in the new jail. The foreign prison of this command is located on the southeastern edge of Cuba. Officials said 14 people were imprisoned in Camp 7. At the same time, there are 40 prisoners in Guantanamo jail. Camp 7 of this jail located in Guantanamo Bay is considered a very secret prison. Some media reports have claimed that some of the world’s most feared extremists have been kept here.
Camp 7 opened in the year 2006
Southern Command said that inmates imprisoned in Camp 7 have been safely sent to Camp 5. But it did not say when this transfer was done. Camp 5 is largely vacant and is located at par with Camp 6, where other prisoners are housed. Camp 7 was opened for the first time in December 2006. The intention behind its opening was to keep the prisoners locked in the CIA’s network of secret detention centers here. Camp 7 is called ‘Black Sites’, where prisoners are allegedly brutally interrogated.
Army has been denying the location of Camp 7
The Army runs Camp 7 located in Guantanamo Bay under an agreement with the CIA. The Southern Command said that the intelligence agency also helped during the transfer of prisoners. The army has refused to accept the location of Camp 7 on the base for a long time. Apart from this, journalists have never been allowed to go inside the camp. Officials said that there are some flaws in the camp, for which it needs to be changed. But the Pentagon has refused to pay for its construction.
Camp 7 accused 9/11
It has been told that five prisoners have been kept in Camp 7, who are accused of helping in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. These people have been charged with war crimes. President Joe Biden said that he intended to close this prison located in Guantanamo Bay. But for this, some prisoners will need to get approval from Congress to sentence them to trial or imprisonment.
