Bollywood director Vivek Agnihotri’s recent film ‘The Kashmir Files’ based on the massacre and exodus of Kashmiri Hindus is garnering a lot of applause across the country. The Kashmir Files, made on the issue of exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, is being liked by people across the country. The film, which released last week on Friday (March 11), has been declared tax free in several BJP-ruled states.
The name of Uttar Pradesh has also been included in the latest list of BJP-ruled states that have made the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax-free. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted on Tuesday, “#TheKashmirFiles film has been made tax free in Uttar Pradesh.”
Apart from UP, the BJP-ruled governments of Tripura, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa have made the film tax-free in the state. That is, till now the film has been made tax free in seven states. A film being tax free in a state means that the concerned state will not charge its share of GST on the sale of tickets for that film.
These BJP ruled states have announced tax free
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday announced that The Kashmir Files film will be tax free in the state. Bommai tweeted, “Congratulations to Vivek Agnihotri for faithfully portraying the poignant story of expelling Kashmiri Pandits from their home regions. To support the film and encourage people to watch it, we will make it tax-free in Karnataka.”
Madhya Pradesh
Apart from Karnataka, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government has also decided to make the film tax free in the state. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted on Sunday that the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ depicts a heart-wrenching narration of the pain, suffering, struggle and trauma faced by Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s.
He said that the film needs to be seen by more and more people. That’s why we have decided to make it tax free in Madhya Pradesh. Chouhan has also congratulated and congratulated the director and producer of this film for the success of the film.
Apart from this, the Gujarat government also decided on Sunday to make the film tax free in the state. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a tweet that the decision to make the film tax free, which was released on March 11, has been taken by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
At the same time, the Haryana government has also announced to make the film tax free in the state. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar himself visited The Kashmir Files on Sunday. After watching the film, the CM tweeted, “Watched the film in theaters today. Haryana Government has made the film Kashmir Files tax free, so that our present generation also sees and understands this vibrant film.”
He wrote in another tweet, “The film ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a living and touching depiction of the human tragedy that took place in the Kashmir Valley in 1990. I am fortunate to have worked for the organization for a long time in J&K Have seen and understood closely the suffering and conditions of the people there.
Apart from this, Goa’s caretaker Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also supported The Kashmir Files and said that the film will be made tax free in the state. The Chief Minister also said that the film would be shown on as many screens as possible in the state.
In the afternoon, Pramod Sawant, his wife Sulakshana Sawant and Goa BJP President Sadanand Shet Tavanade watched the film at INOX Multiplex in state capital Panaji. Talking to reporters after watching the film, Sawant condemned the incidents in Kashmir in 1990 and held the then Congress government responsible for the atrocities on Kashmiri Hindus and the entire people of Kashmir. He said that every youth and countryman should be aware of these historical facts shown in the film. Sawant announced that the film would be made tax free in the state.
The Tripura government has also decided to make The Kashmir Files tax-free with an aim to encourage people to watch a film based on the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits during the onset of militancy in the Valley. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday appealed to the people to watch the film directed by Vivek Agnihotri.
