New Delhi: After the arrival of 2,71,202 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, the total cases of infection in the country increased to 3,71,22,164. According to the updated data of the Union Health Ministry on Sunday, these include 7,743 cases of Omicron form of corona virus. And since Saturday it increased by 28.17 percent.
According to experts, it is not possible to sequence the genome of each sample but emphasized that this wave of virus is mainly due to Omicron. According to the updated data of the ministry till 8 am, the number of patients under treatment in the country was recorded at 15,50,377 in the last 225 days while the death toll rose to 4,86,066 with the death of 314 patients.
According to the ministry, the cases under treatment are 4.18 percent of the total cases of infection, while the national recovery rate from COVID-19 has come down to 94.51 percent. The cases under treatment registered an increase of 1,32,557 cases in the last 24 hours. The daily infection rate was recorded at 16.28 percent while the weekly infection rate stood at 13.69 percent.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 3,50,85,721 while its death rate is 1.31 percent. Under the nationwide vaccination campaign, more than 156.76 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in the country so far. The number of infected in the country had exceeded 20 lakh on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August 2020 and 40 lakh on 5 September 2020. The total cases of infection crossed 50 lakh on 16 September 2020, 60 lakh on 28 September 2020, 70 lakh on 11 October 2020, 80 lakh on 29 October 2020 and 90 lakh on 20 November.
On 19 December 2020, these cases had crossed one crore in the country. Last year, on May 4, the number of infected had crossed 20 million and on June 23, 2021, it crossed 30 million.
Out of 314 new cases of death, 106 patients are from Kerala and 39 are from West Bengal. Out of 4,86,066 deaths in the country so far, the maximum number of 1,41,779 patients died in Maharashtra, 50,674 in Kerala, 38,418 in Karnataka, 36,967 in Tamil Nadu, 25,335 in Delhi, 22,953 in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal reported 20,052 deaths. The ministry has emphasized that more than 70 per cent of the deaths are due to other serious diseases. (agency)
