Government of India will finalize the purchase of the indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas. The deal will be officially done by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Indian Air Force High Commissioners at this mega-contract during Aero India show to be held in Bengaluru. Due to this news, shares of HAL are seeing strong gains today. At 11.25 am, the stock is trading at Rs 963 level with a gain of 3 per cent on the NSE.
Let us tell that Tejas is a multi-engine supersonic fighter jet developed by indigenous technology. It can fly in any season. This deal is worth 48 thousand crores. As part of the deal, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will provide 83 combat aircraft to the Indian Air Force at the Aero India Show to be held today.
Significantly, on 13 January, the Cabinet Committee on Security, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the deal for 73 Tejas MK-1A and 10 LCA Tejas MK-1 trainer aircraft. The Tejas MK-1A will be equipped with electronically scanned array radars, Beyond Visual Range Missiles, Electronic Warfare Suits and air-carrying capability.
R Madhavan, managing director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), said last month that from March 2024, the Tejal fighter aircraft would be started to be supplied to the Indian Air Force. About 16 aircraft will be supplied each year. According to him, the basic price of this aircraft is 25 crores, while 11 crores will be for its ground system support and other important things. Apart from this, 7 thousand rupees will be inclusive of basic custom duty and GST.
He also said that the cost of each version of Tejas would be around Rs 309 crore while the cost of the trainer aircraft would be Rs 280 crore. In this deal of 48 thousand crore rupees, about 2500 crore rupees will be given to the Aeronautics Development Agency for its design and development, and 2250 crores will be spent on the regulation of foreign exchange.

This aircraft can fly at a speed of 1350 km. It is also one of the best fighter aircraft in the world. It has the ability to fly up to 50 thousand feet altitude. It has flown nearly 3,000 times during testing. This aircraft is much better than India’s JF-17 aircraft in neighbouring Pakistan and China.
