The agency said that Indian experts have arrived in Russia and started taking S-400 training in January 2021. It is worth mentioning that in October 2018, India signed an agreement with Russia to buy five units of S-400 air defense missile systems for five billion dollars.

India signed the deal despite former US President Donald Trump’s administration threatening to ban it. India paid the first installment of $ 80 million in 2019 to purchase this missile system. In December, Russia said that the implementation of ongoing defense deals with India, including the supply of a batch of S-400 missile systems, was progressing well despite the threat of US sanctions. Significantly, the US had warned to ban Turkey on this system, because it was also buying this system from Russia.

Earlier, Admiral John Aquilino, who is going to be the next commander of the US Army’s Indo-Pacific Command, said at the US Congress that the US needs to understand that India needs security cooperation and military logistics. The admiral indicated that he would try to alienate India from Russia instead of resorting to sanctions to buy major defense equipment.
