The date of 23 March is celebrated as the death anniversary of Shivram Rajguru, one of the youngest revolutionaries of India. On this day the British hanged Rajguru along with Shaheed Azam Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev. These youths, filled with the spirit of revolution and freedom, shook the British rule. Until the three revolutionaries were not caught by the British, the British rule could not sit in peace.

1. Shivram Rajguru was an Indian revolutionary from Pune, Maharashtra. He was born on August 24, 1908 in Khed near Pune to Parvati Devi and Harinarayan Rajguru. The birthplace of Khed near Pune has been renamed as Rajgurunagar in his honour.
2. There is a shopping complex in Hisar Haryana which is known as Rajguru Market. In 1953, this complex was named in his honor.
3. Rajguru was good in studies. His father died when he was only six years old. His brother took care of him and a widowed mother. His family had some dreams for Shivram Rajguru but the destiny was different. He was inspired by the revolutionary ideas of Lokmanya Tilak.
4. At the age of about 15, he went to Varanasi and took admission in a Sanskrit school where he met his fellow revolutionaries. It is said that he had walked for six days to reach Varanasi.
5. He joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. Its main objective was to overthrow the British colonialists. He wanted to get Indian independence from British rule by any means.
6. He became an ally of Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev and in 1928 in Lahore, a British police officer, J.P. Participated in the murder of Saunders.
7. His action to kill the British officer was to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, who was killed in October 1928 in protest against the Simon Commission. Lala Lajpat Rai was badly injured due to the lathi charge by the British police in protest. After which he died.
8. After the murder, Rajguru again hid in Nagpur. He took shelter in the house of an RSS worker and met Dr. K.B. Hedgewar also met. But during his visit to Pune, he was eventually arrested.
9. Three brave revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged on March 23, 1931. His body was cremated on the banks of river Sutlej.
10. When Shivram Rajguru was martyred, his age was only 23 years. He was known to have a fearless spirit and invincible courage. And is also considered the gunman of Bhagat Singh’s party.
