Internal differences within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and differences between the party and the IPAC seem to be mounting, following confusion with the party uploading the purported list of municipal candidates for municipal elections. According to CNN-News18, political commentators say that this is because differences seem to be increasing between party seniors and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
He said that the miss communication with the uploaded TMC list is the result of this issue, as Abhishek Banerjee was instrumental in bringing Prashant Kishor, and now differences are also arising between IPAC and TMC.
The opposition is taking lessons from BJP leader Amit Malviya’s tweet, which said, “Mamata Banerjee has moved to break ties with I-PAC in Bengal and other states where she was helping TMC. I-PAC was the brainchild of Abhishek Banerjee and an initiative to revamp and expand TMC. This is another move by Mamata to cut her ambitious nephew. Discord escalates.”
Now different types of questions are coming out of the situation. Is there a difference between IPAC and Mamata Banerjee now or is there a difference within the party?
The whole affair started with uploading of TMC candidates list of 107 municipalities candidates for civic polls. Later, the second list was sent to the district heads, in which there was a difference in the names of 121 candidates.
A section of senior leaders has accused the IPAC that without their advice, a fake list was uploaded from the AITC handler. On the other hand, IPAC has clearly stated that they never had the workings of TMC’s digital platform.
There are also reports of differences between a section of senior leaders and Abhishek Banerjee. The confusion over who uploaded the list also shows differences within the party.
Abhishek Banerjee became the party’s national general secretary after TMC’s 2021 victory in the assembly elections. However, a section of senior leaders was not happy with his growing strength in the party. Abhishek was instrumental in implementing the ‘one man one post’ policy in the party, which was disliked by seniors.
During the Ganga Sagar Mela, Abhishek took a different stand from the government, after which Kalyan Banerjee openly criticized him. Abhishek Banerjee showed that with strict measures, he had contained the Covid-19 case in his constituency, this was also criticized by Kalyan Banerjee. All this had triggered a war between the juniors of the seniors in the party.
These are early problems between the two generations, as Mamata Banerjee wants juniors to take over gradually, and Abhishek wants to take his own responsibility.
