Taliban on US Soldiers Withdrawal: Since the US Taliban Peace Deal, the issue of the withdrawal of US troops in Afghanistan has been in the news. While the US has said that it is difficult to withdraw all troops by May 1, the Taliban has asked not to defy the deadline on this (Taliban US Agreement). The Taliban on Friday threatened the US against defying the May 1 deadline for the withdrawal of American and NATO troops from Afghanistan.
The Taliban have also warned of a ‘reaction’ in case of such a violation, which would mean increased attacks by the terrorist group. The organization gave this warning at a press conference in Moscow. The day before, he had a meeting with senior Afghan negotiators and international observers. The purpose of this meeting was to resume the disrupted peace process and the end of decades of war in Afghanistan.
What did biden say?
The Joe Biden Administration of America says that it is reviewing the agreement that the Taliban had made with the Trump administration. Biden said in an interview with ABC on Wednesday that a May deadline might follow, but it is difficult. He also said that if it is taken forward then it will not be very long. Suhail Shaheen, a member of the Taliban negotiation team, warned the reporters that ‘they should leave on May 1 (Taliban US Talks).’
‘Violations will react’
Shaheen warned that stopping after May 1 would be a breach of the agreement. He said, “After that it would be a violation of the agreement in a way. That violation will not happen on our side (Taliban Warns US). There will be a response to his violation. Shaheen did not clarify what kind of ‘reaction’ there would be. Although the Taliban have not attacked US or NATO forces in recent months, in keeping with the agreement that the Taliban signed in February 2020, unprovoked bombings and targeted killings have increased (Taliban US Peace Talks).
What did you say on Islamic rule?
Shaheen said, “We hope that it will not happen that they will go back and we will focus on a peaceful solution to the Afghan issue for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Afghanistan.” He also reiterated that the Taliban are firm on their demand for an Islamic government (Taliaban on Islamic Rule). At the same time, it was not clear what the Islamic government would be like and whether it would mean the return of a repressive regime in which girls were forbidden for education, women were prevented from working and punished severely. Shaheen also did not say whether the Taliban would accept the election or not, but insisted that President Ashraf Ghani would not fit the definition of Islamic government.
