The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the postponement of the NI-CET 2021 exam in view of the coronavirus situation. SC has ordered the postponement of INI-CET 2021, the examination for admission to all postgraduate medical courses of AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER and NIMHANS scheduled to be held on June 16 by at least one month. The court has said that fixing the examination on June 16 is arbitrary.
A bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and MR Shah took this decision on a plea by doctors preparing to take admission in PG medical, who had challenged the notification fixing INI CET 2021 on June 16.
What did the court say?
Bech said that in view of the difficulties faced by the applicants due to the examination and many applicants are staying away from the examination center due to the duty of COVID, there is a need to postpone the examination.
Around 80,000 applicants were appearing for 815 seats in this national level exam, which is being conducted by AIIMS. These 815 seats are present in 8 institutes of AIIMS and JIPMER, Puducherry, NIMHANS, BENGALURU and PGIMER, Chandigarh.
INI CET 2021 was initially scheduled to be held on June 8, but was later postponed to the date of June 16 in view of the Corona pandemic.

Earlier in the month of May, NEET-PG was postponed by at least four months. Its purpose was to make available a large number of qualified doctors for epidemic duty and also to take advantage of the service of medical interns. The PMO had said in a statement that the services of final year MBBS students can also be deployed in services such as teleconsultation and monitoring of low-symptomatic COVID cases.
