ChandigarhShiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday claimed that the ruling Congress will face defeat in next month’s Punjab Assembly elections, while his party’s leadership The alliance will win more than 80 seats. He claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party would win less than 10 seats.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is contesting the elections in alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). As per the seat-sharing agreement between the two parties, the BSP is contesting 20 of the 117 assembly seats in Punjab, while the SAD will contest the rest. Claiming that the SAD-BSP alliance won over 80 seats, Badal said, “Congress is heading towards complete defeat. You won’t be able to touch double digits.” Addressing several election meetings in Ludhiana in favor of party candidates, Badal said the SAD-BSP was ready to return to power and that “the rule of hooliganism is only for a few more days”.

“With the thumping victory of our alliance, on March 10 (when the election results will be announced), the era of peace and all-round development will begin again,” he said. Badal claimed that SAD is the only party which has genuine concern for the people of Punjab while the decisions of parties like AAP and Congress are taken by their party high command sitting in Delhi.
Badal said, “These parties have no real pain, real concern for the state. Their sole aim is to grab power but not to take Punjab forward. Even the people of Ludhiana know the development that took place during the SAD’s stay in power.” He said that he has been touring Punjab for the last three months and knows the pulse of the people.
