Visiting the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, will soon become even easier. By the end of this year, there will be direct train to go there. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal says that Indian Railways will have rail connectivity to the Statue of Unity by the end of this year. The completion of the Kevadia Rail Link Project will boost tourism in the state. Currently, there is a support of Vadodara, Bharuch and Ankleshwar railway stations for the world’s tallest statue. Apart from this, the nearest airports are Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Vadodara Airport.
Kevadia Station, just 5 km from Statue of Unity
In the budget of 2017, the central government announced the gauge conversion of the Dabhoi-Chanod railway line. This railway line is now being extended to Kevadia. In December 2018, the foundation stone of Kevadia station was laid by President Ramnath Kovind. The station is just 5 km from the Statue of Unity and is being developed under the Kevadia Rail Link Project.
Gandhinagar station will be made world class
Railway Minister Goyal has also said that the Gandhinagar railway station will be developed in a modern way in the next two months. It will be developed by the Indian Railways Station Development Corporation. Gandhinagar railway station will be developed to world class standards. Facilities will be increased here for travelers coming from all over the world. Under this project, Five Star Hotel will also be built over the track which will be operated by Leela Group. Apart from Gandhinagar, Habibganj station will also be made a world class station in the next few months.
Major tourist centers within a year
The 182-meter-high Statue of Unity was built to pay homage to the country’s first home minister, Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel. It was inaugurated on 31 October 2018 on the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. Within a year of its inauguration, it became one of the major tourist centers of the country.
