Srinagar: Three people have been arrested for throwing acid on a girl in the Hawal area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. The police gave this information on Wednesday. Police said the 24-year-old girl was scorched by acid thrown at her on Tuesday evening and was admitted to the hospital. Police officials said that after investigation and technical analysis, the policemen arrested the main accused in the case, Sajid Altaf Rather, a resident of Dalgate.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was stalking the girl after she declined the offer of engagement, he said. Officials said the accused works at a drugstore and on Tuesday evening, he took leave from the shop and went on a scooter to the place where the girl used to work. A person named Momin Nazir Sheikh was also with him. “While going back home in the evening (Tuesday), the accused chased the girl and threw acid on her. After that they went back to the shop.”

After getting other evidence, Sheikh was also arrested in the case, he said. He said that the police have also seized the two-wheeler used to carry out the incident. Officials said the accused disclosed that they had bought acid from Mohd Salim, an acquaintance of Rather, who worked as a ‘motor mechanic’ at a shop. He told that Salim has also been arrested for questioning. He said that the shop from where the acid was bought has been sealed. (agency)
