SpiceJet and IndiGo Salary: Private airline SpiceJet has announced a minimum 10% increase in the salary of its captains. Apart from this, SpiceJet will increase the salary of its flight officers by 15 percent and the salary of trainers by 20 percent. On the other hand, another private airline Indigo has increased the salary of its pilots by eight per cent with the flight operation services gradually returning on track. This hike has become effective from April 1, 2022.
International services have resumed from March 28, 2022, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Full regular domestic flights resumed in the country on October 18 last year.
Pay cut due to pandemic
According to a report in CNBC TV18, SpiceJet had taken a pay cut during the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SpiceJet had told its pilots on April 29, 2020, that they would not get salaries for April and May, but would be paid for flying cargo flights. Earlier, the airline had cut salaries, laid off its pilots and sent some of its staff on unpaid leave due to COVID-19.

In June 2020, SpiceJet revised the salary structure of pilots who were getting paid based on the airline’s fleet utilization. However, on November 2, 2021, the company had assured the engineering staff to restore their salaries as well as other facilities.

According to a report in PTI, another private airline has increased the salary of its pilots by eight percent. Asim Mitra, Senior Vice President (Flight Operations), IndiGo, said in a release, “With flight services now resuming as normal, I am pleased to announce an eight percent hike in the salaries of all our pilots. ”
The Human Resources team will inform about the revised salary structure in the coming weeks, he said.
