Britain has said that it will toughen immigration rules so that people coming through illegal routes can be prevented from giving asylum. He is being criticized for this rule of the British Government. Significantly, a large number of refugees reach Britain through small boats and trucks. The country’s Home Minister Priti Patel said that refugees coming to Britain through organized and legal routes will be given asylum in the country.
Preeti Patel further said, those who enter the country through illegal routes, will be allowed to stay only temporarily. These people will be provided limited benefits and will be evaluated continuously to be sent out of the UK. Patel said that this rule is fair. He said that people are dying in the sea, in lorries and in shipping containers. To prevent deaths, we must stop the trade of those who produce them.
Refugee groups criticized
On the other hand, refugee groups and immigration lawyers say the scheme unfairly discriminates against refugees arriving in Britain. The chief executive of the British Red Cross says that the proposal would create an unfair two-tier system. In which the support given to a refugee will be estimated on the basis of how they entered the country. Their security needs will not be taken into consideration. It is inhuman.
Refugees reach Britain via France
The British government has to deal with the problem of refugees. A large number of refugees enter Britain via northern France. For this, they ride in a truck or lorry in France and sometimes they reach Britain by small boats. In 2020, 8500 people traveled to Britain via small boats. During this time many refugees died on the way. At the same time, most of the refugees died due to getting into the truck. Significantly, in 2019, 39 Vietnamese migrants were killed in a refrigerated container of a truck.
