Aurangabad: Today most of the power companies across the country are making positive changes in customer service through technology. As part of this, if electricity distribution companies increase the use of smart meters, the quality of customer service will increase and thereby eliminate the need for customers to take timely readings and get proper electricity bills. It will be rendered by Vijay Singhal, Chairman and Administrative Director of Mahavitaran.
Singhal was speaking at an online conference on smart meters organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Under the ‘Smart Meter National Program’ across the country, the target is to replace 250 million old meters with smart meters by the year 2023. The conference was organized by CII to achieve this objective and address potential issues. CII is an organization working in India for development through environmental protection. Praveer Sinha, Andhra Pradesh Energy Secretary Shrikant Nagulapalli, Assam Principal Secretary Neeraj Verma, Punjab Principal Secretary (Energy) Venu Prasad, Intelismart Infrastructure Private Limited Chairman Anil Rawal, Secure Meter Limited’s Suket Singhal were also present.

Electricity distribution companies will also benefit
Singhal said that by realizing the right consumption of electricity, the consumer can become more aware about saving electricity. Smart meters are going to fundamentally change the electricity payment system. By reducing the complaints of consumers regarding the bill, not only the consumers but also the electricity distribution companies will benefit. Smart meters will also help in reducing dues of power companies as consumers get used to paying their bills on time. Smart meters will go a long way in improving the balance sheet of power companies as a whole. For this, consumers are expected to accept this smart meter in a positive manner. The central government is taking positive steps for smart meters.
