Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been embroiled in a controversy when he resigned from his post of cricket analyst after skipping a TV program midway as the anchor of Pakistani state-controlled PTV asked him to step out. Akhtar said that the anchor of the program misbehaved with him and insulted him after Pakistan’s five-wicket win over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday.
On Tuesday night, Shoaib Akhtar had to face humiliation on air in PTV’s show Game On Hai. After this, 46-year-old Akhtar, who played 46 Tests and 163 ODIs for Pakistan, got up, removed his microphone and walked out of the show. The anchor of the show Nauman Niaz did not try to call her back and showed no response and the program continued.

But the other guests at the event were Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Rashid Latif, Umar Gul, Aaqib Javed and Pakistan women’s team captain Sana Mir. There was a ruckus on social media after Akhtar left the program and people asked Niyaz to apologize. The video of the argument between Akhtar and Niyaz has gone viral on social media.
Akhtar clarified his position by posting on Twitter on Wednesday. Akhtar tweeted that many videos are coming on social media so I thought I should clarify my position. Noman showed rudeness and he asked me to leave the show. He said that it was very embarrassing because with you stalwarts like Sir Vivian Richards and David Gower and some of my contemporaries and seniors were also sitting on the set and millions of people were watching it.

Akhtar said that I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying that I am pulling Nauman’s leg by mutual understanding and Nauman will also politely apologize and we will continue the programme. He refused to apologise. After that I had no other option.
The problem arose when Akhtar ignored the anchor’s question and talked about fast bowler Haris Rauf and praised Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Qalandars and its coach Aaqib. Nauman tried to stop them and he got irritated with Akhtar. He told Shoaib that he is not paying attention to him and he will not tolerate it.
The anchor said that you misbehaved with me and I am telling you that now you can leave the program. After this the commercial break was taken. Akhtar later apologized to other experts and then announced that he was resigning from PTV Sports.
Shoaib took out his mic and said that I am very sorry. I am resigning from PTV. Looking at the way I have been treated on National TV, I feel that it is just no more. That’s why I’m leaving. Thanks. Despite this, the anchor did not pay any attention to Shoaib and continued reading his script.
