Babu’s mother said she had complained to the police on Sunday night itself that Jose had allegedly kidnapped her son in an autorickshaw. He alleged that despite giving details of the kidnapping, the police failed to act. At the same time, the police said that the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KPA) was invoked against Jose a few months back. Police said that after coming to Kottayam, Jose wanted to reorganize his gang. Babu is suspected to have been killed on suspicion of gathering information about a criminal gang operating in the area. Leader of Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly VD Satheesan condemned the incident. He termed it as yet another proof of the failure of the Home Department headed by Chief Minister P Vijayan. He also said that if the law and order situation in the state does not improve, then the opposition will be forced to pressurize the Chief Minister to give up the command of the Home Department.
