The talks between Putin and Modi come at a time when Russia announced the opening of humanitarian corridors in several regions along with a ceasefire from Monday morning to evacuate civilians.
Thousands of Ukrainians and citizens of other countries are trying to escape safely, amid continued Russian shelling in cities in north, south and central Ukraine. India is also making every effort to evacuate its citizens including students.
“The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in Ukraine. President Putin apprised Prime Minister Modi of the status of the ongoing talks between the parties of Ukraine and Russia,” the sources said.

“Prime Minister Modi urged President Putin to hold talks directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in addition to the ongoing talks between the delegations of the two countries,” the sources said.
Prime Minister Modi appreciated the announcement of ceasefire and opening of humanitarian corridors in some other Ukrainian cities, including Sumi, and stressed the importance of safe evacuation of Indian citizens from Sumi.
“President Putin assured Prime Minister Modi that he would extend all possible cooperation to rescue the Indians,” the sources said.
This was the third conversation between Modi and Putin after the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. India has been appealing to top leaders of Russia and Ukraine to end the war immediately and resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
