Nagpur. 601 lives were saved by Railway Protection Force under Mission Jeevan Raksha. Most of them were passengers who were trying to board or alight the moving train. According to the information received from the RPF, under this mission, in the last 4 years, RPF personnel saved 1,650 people from being hit by the wheels of moving trains at railway stations. Due to these efforts of RPF personnel, the President of India has awarded them 9 Jeevan Raksha Padak and one Gallantry Medal. Apart from this, along with the safety of the life and property of the passengers throughout the year, successful campaigns were run against those who saved and damaged railway property.
Protector messenger made during the Corona period
During the epidemic, the security personnel of RPF became guard messengers during the COVID period. RPF provided security to 522 Oxygen special trains from originating station to destination. COVID help booths were operated. During this, 26 RPF personnel laid down their lives due to COVID getting infected during work. RPF deployed 244 ‘Meri Saheli’ teams at major railway stations across India for the purpose of women safety. These include train escorting, CCTV system in 840 stations and around 4,000 coaches, providing security to women in women’s special suburban trains and conducting regular drives against unauthorized passengers in women’s coaches.
Tough effort to stop human trafficking
During the year 2021, RPF rescued 630 persons from the clutches of human traffickers. These include 54 women, 94 minor girls, 81 men and 401 minor boys. At the same time, he played an important role in reuniting the lost or separated children from the family. More than 11,900 children rescued. Apart from this, more than 3,000 criminals involved in crimes against passengers were arrested and handed over to the GRP. At the same time, 8,744 people involved in such crimes were arrested along with recovery of stolen railway property worth Rs 5.83 crore.
crackdown on illegal ticket brokers
The brokers got a golden opportunity to do the business of illegally buying and selling reserved tickets at premium rates regarding the special trains running during the Corona period. To curb this, continuous campaigns were launched and more than 4,100 cases were registered with the arrest of more than 4,600 illegal touts. Illegally obtained live tickets worth Rs 2.8 crore were also seized from them. At the same time, 620 drug peddlers (persons involved in drug trade) were arrested. Narcotics worth more than Rs 15.7 crore were seized. The RPF also recovered sandalwood and animal and flora as well as several prohibited wildlife i.e. birds, snakes, tortoises, peacocks, reptiles and their processed products.
Over 25,000 persons were apprehended for unauthorized travel in coaches reserved for women and 9,307 persons from coaches reserved for differently abled. Immediate action was taken on more than 80,000 security related calls and complaints of passengers in distress on toll free helpline number 139 and Twitter. Missed luggage worth more than Rs 23 crore belonging to 12,377 passengers were returned to them after verification.
