Washim. In the case of molesting a minor, the Chief District and Sessions Judge, Shailja Sawant, on the basis of the competent evidence received, convicted the old man and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of two and a half thousand rupees.
According to the episode, in this incident that took place on 19 November 2019 in Kankalwadi village of Risod tehsil, a 30-year-old married woman had come from her maternal home with her 10-year-old daughter, when her maternal uncle’s 8-year-old daughter along with the village’s water tank. On seeing both of them, 70-year-old Vaman Ghanghav also reached there and she molested the girl by revealing her father’s identity to her.
Similarly, on the pretext of picking cotton, his maternal uncle’s daughter was taken towards the field, but the old woman ran away after making a noise, later both the girls returned home and told the whole thing to their mother. After which the members of the house and 9 to 10 people of the neighborhood reached the spot and caught the accused elderly Vaman and called for a reply. He was arrested after registering a case under the investigation of the matter and justice was entered for justice. In the case, 8 witnesses were presented on behalf of the government side.
Convicting the accused on the basis of the testimony of witnesses, the existing Principal District and Sessions Judge Shailja Sawant sentenced the accused to two years’ rigorous imprisonment under section 354 and a fine of one thousand rupees, in case of non-payment of fine, additional imprisonment, similarly. Under other sections, one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 500 rupees, 15 days additional imprisonment for non-payment of fine, three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of one thousand rupees in section 8 of the Prevention of Child Sexual Atrocities Act, for non-payment of fine. In the situation, a sentence of one month was pronounced. Orders have also been given to give two thousand rupees to the victim girl out of the amount of fine.
