Prasad was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980 on a Congress ticket. Prasad, who was in the Congress for a long time, later joined the Janata Dal, then the Rashtriya Janata Dal and then the JD(U). Prasad’s name was often preceded by the word “king”, indicating that no matter what changed in the course of the political wind in his home state, it made no difference to him and He remained in the Rajya Sabha continuously since 1985 except for some time.
