Congress Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi’s workplace in Kerala’s Wayanad district was vandalised on Friday, an act that the social gathering claimed was orchestrated by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the ruling CPI(M) social gathering’s scholar wing. The Indian Youth Congress alleged in a tweet that “the goons held the flags of SFI” whereas scaling the partitions of Gandhi’s workplace and destroyed it.
“Today around 3 pm, a group of SFI workers and leaders forcefully encroached on the office of Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi. They attacked the office people, Rahul Gandhi’s staff brutally. We don’t know the reason,” Congress chief KC Venugopal advised information company ANI.
According to the native police, a minimum of 100 SFI cadre stormed into Gandhi’s workplace. “There were around 80-100 activists. As of now, eight of them are under custody. More police have been deployed,” the police was quoted as telling PTI.
The scholar wing of the CPI(M) was protesting in opposition to Gandhi’s alleged failure to step within the row involving creation of buffer zones surrounding the forest areas within the hilly area of the district. Videos of SFI staff barging into the workplace, and beating up staff inside surfaced.
Calling out the shortage of regulation and order within the state, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan identified the “lawlessness” and “goondaism” of the ruling social gathering within the state.
“Ghastly attack by SFI goons at Rahul Gandhi’s MP Office at Wayanad. It is lawlessness and goondaism. CPM has turned into an organised mafia. Strongly Condemning the attack,” the Congress chief tweeted.
The assaults drew sharp criticism from Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor who requested if Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will take motion in opposition to the SFI activists. “Visuals of the trashing of Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad office by activists of @CPIMKerala student wing, SFI. Would Pinarayi Vijayan & Sitaram Yechury take disciplinary action or let their silence condone such behaviour? Is this their idea of politics?,” tweeted Tharoor.
Kerala CM Vijayan has assured that strict motion might be taken in opposition to the perpetrators. Wayanad is Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
