Wardha. Industrialist Rahul Bajaj had a heartfelt relationship with Wardha. He used to come here often. For the last two and a half years, due to Corona infection, his steps could not reach Wardha. At the same time, only his memories are left for Wardha. Rahul’s maternal grandfather Jamnalal Bajaj had considered Wardha as his work land. Rahul continued to follow the footsteps of father and maternal grandfather. Along with the educational institution in Wardha, he started extensive work by establishing an institution for the advancement of the rural area. Taking the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi into his life, the work of his maternal grandfather and father went on. On his footsteps, Rahul continued to walk till his death.
He was the son of Kamalnayan Bajaj, son of Mahatma Gandhi’s Manas son Jamnalal Bajaj and Savitri. He was born on 10 June 1938. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru named him Rahul. He was married to Roopa Gholap in 1961. They have two sons Rajiv and Sanjeev and daughter Sunayna. On the pillars of activism, entrepreneurship, research, development and integrity, he made the industry group successful with efficient leadership.
Was associated with various organizations of Wardha
He was associated with various organizations of Wardha. He was sitting on the post of chairman of the leading education board in the field of education. Took the reins of the post of President of Gandhi Gyan Mandir. Worked as a trustee of Gandhi Vichar Parishad. He had left the post of trustee of the council a few months back. He was a frequent visitor to Wardha as he held the responsibility of three major institutions. He used to take full details by being present in the meetings of the institutions.
Engineering college dream fulfilled
His dream was to build an engineering college for the Bajaj Group in Wardha. Through the Board of Education, he had woven the web of education in Wardha. The centenary festival of the Board of Education was celebrated in 2014. The then President Pranab Mukherjee, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended. During this, he had announced to lay the foundation of the engineering college soon. Which was directly realized in 2017-18.
Civil hospitality was done in Wardha
On 20 November 2006, Rahul Bajaj was given civic hospitality in the courtyard of Kesrimal Girls’ School in the city due to his unbreakable relationship with Wardha. Then he had refreshed the memories of him and his family from Wardha. His relationship with the holy land of Wardha and Sevagram will remain forever. It was said to remain indebted till the last breath of this holy land.
Rahul came last in 2019
Rahul Bajaj continued to visit Wardha till 2019. But his last steps were lying in Wardha on 16 September 2019. He came last for the program organized at Bajaj Institute of Technology. Nandan Nilkani, the father of Aadhar card was also present with him. After this his arrival in Wardha was not possible due to corona infection. Today, as soon as the news of his death reached Wardha, the minds of the business world, the Gandhian organization and the general public went numb.
