Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia, who arrived on a visit to Pakistan, met his counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad. During this, extensive talks were held between the two leaders. Loverov and Qureshi reviewed bilateral cooperation in the areas of counter-terrorism measures, security and energy. But even in this meeting, Qureshi gave a rant to Kashmir in front of the Russian Foreign Minister.
Russian Foreign Minister Lovrov is the first Russian foreign minister to visit Pakistan since 2012. Loverov planted saplings in the ministry’s premises and after that he went inside the building to have a joint photograph. After this, representative level talks were held. Qureshi tweeted, very happy to welcome Foreign Minister Sergei Lovrov to the spectacular meetings today. Establishing multifaceted relations with Russia is a major priority of Pakistan. We believe that a strong relationship contributes to regional stability and global security.
In front of Russia too, the rant of Kashmir
Qureshi said that Pakistan and Russia share a common position on many matters including peace and stability in Afghanistan. He also took up the Kashmir issue with the Russian foreign minister. The Pakistani Foreign Minister said that he shared his view with Lavrov on matters of peace and security in South Asia and the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He tweeted, We hope that this visit will deepen our friendship and we are committed to expanding our relations in diverse fields through high-level connectivity.
Review on cooperation in security sector including counter-terrorism measures
Giving information about the talks, the Pakistani Foreign Minister said, “We discussed the progress in the field of energy cooperation, including the Pakistan-Stream Gas Pipeline Project, to further encourage economic diplomacy.” Qureshi said, “We reviewed cooperation in the area of security, including anti-terrorism measures.” The Pakistani Foreign Minister said that he agreed on the need to increase people-to-people contacts through cooperation in various fields including education. He said, we will increase mutual cooperation under the framework of SCO.
Lovrov met with Imran
Officials said that the two foreign ministers discussed various topics of bilateral interest with an aim to expand into multifaceted relations. The Russian Foreign Minister also met Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and other officials. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement on Lovrov’s visit to Islamabad that Pakistan is an important foreign policy partner of Russia and has had fruitful talks with international organizations, mainly the United Nations and its agencies.
