Chandigarh: Continuing the race to woo voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday promised that every housewive would be given to the housewives if his party comes to power. Rs 2,000 will be given per month. He also promised eight free LPG cylinders every year to the housewives.
Sidhu also promised two-wheelers to girls enrolling in colleges for further studies and Rs 20,000 to girls who pass class 12. Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has promised Rs 1,000 to all women in Punjab.

Apart from this, he promised in the election states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa that if his party comes to power, up to 300 units of free domestic electricity will be given every month. Sidhu made these announcements at a rally in Barnala district of Punjab. Addressing the rally, he stressed on the need of women empowerment in the state. “Rs 2,000 per month and eight (LPG) cylinders will be given free of cost to the housewives by the Punjab government,” he said.

Sidhu said that girls, whether from villages or urban areas, would be given five thousand rupees after passing the fifth standard. “As an incentive, Rs 15,000 will be given to girls passing class 10th and Rs 20,000 to girls who pass class 12th to go to colleges for higher studies,” he said.
He also promised to give computers to girls to pursue higher education. He promised that girls would also be given two wheelers to go to college. The Congress leader said that the transfer of properties in the name of women would be free. He also promised to set up 28 skill development centers for women across the state.
