Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: The ED conducted raids in Punjab ahead of the assembly elections in February next month. The ED raided the residence of Bhupinder Singh, nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. This action was taken in connection with the case related to illegal sand mining at Bhupinder Singh’s residence. Today (January 18) besides the residence of Channi’s nephew in Punjab, ten other places were also raided. The ED is probing Bhupinder Singh’s relationship with Kudratdeep Singh, who has been booked for illegal sand mining.

Raids a few weeks before polling
This action of the ED is taking place just a few weeks before the elections for the next assembly in Punjab. Polling in Punjab will be held on February 20 next month. Earlier, votes were to be held in Punjab on February 14, but due to Guru Ravidas Jayanti, this was pushed forward by a few days. Guru Ravidas Jayanti is on 16 February. All political parties had requested the Election Commission to move the polling date forward.
