Congress has not been able to prove its majority in Puducherry Assembly. CM V Narayanasamy could not prove the trust vote in the assembly and his government has fallen just days before the elections. On Monday, the speaker announced that the government does not have a majority. However, before the floor test, Chief Minister Narayanasamy continued to claim that he had a majority of elected MLAs. According to the current state of the assembly, it needs the support of 14 MLAs for a majority. After not being able to prove the trust vote at the moment, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy announced his resignation and said that we have submitted the resignation letter to the Lieutenant Governor. According to the instructions of the Lieutenant Governor, the votes were counted with folded hands and the entire proceedings of the assembly were recorded.

Assembly Mathematics
In the 33-member Puducherry Assembly, 30 members are elected and 3 members are nominated by the Central Government. In the 2016 assembly elections, Congress won 15 seats. An MLA was disqualified by the party last year under the anti-defection law. Apart from this, 5 MLAs have resigned so far. DMK had three MLAs, but 1 resigned on Sunday.
After the resignation of 6 MLAs and one disqualification, Puducherry Legislative Assembly is 26. The opposition party AINRC currently has 7 MLAs, AIADMK has 4 MLAs. At the same time, BJP has 3 nominated MLAs. That is, there are 12 MLAs (about the speaker) in support of the government, while there are 14 MLAs in the opposition.
