To recognize, recognize and reward the extraordinary and innovative work done by the districts / organizations of the Central and State Governments in 2006 “Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration” Launched a scheme named.
The scheme was restructured in 2014 to identify priority programs, innovation and the functioning of district collectors in ambitious districts. A fresh plan was again made in 2020 to recognize the work of district collectors towards the economic development of the district.
The Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration under the restructured plan will be presented by the Honorable Prime Minister at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat on October 31, 2020 on National Integration Day.
For the year 2020, the scheme of Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence in Public Administration has been largely restructured to recognize the contribution of government officials in strengthening these:
- Inclusive development through credit flow in the priority sector
- Promoting mass movements – “Public participation” in the district through the Swachh Bharat Mission (urban and rural)
- Better interaction with public administration and redressal of public grievances
The scope of the awards has been extended to identify overall result-oriented performance areas in all regions of the district. The contribution of District Collectors will be recognized by implementing inclusive credit flow in the priority sector, promoting mass movements through public participation, better connectivity with public administration and redress of public grievances.
In addition, efforts of district-level officials will be recognized in the Namami Gange program at the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.
The award for the ambitious district program has been innovated to award the district with the best overall progress under the scheme after 2 years of implementation.
The category of innovations has traditionally received the most nominations. The scheme is broad-based for recognizing innovations at the national / state/district level in 3 different categories.
The PM Awards portal was launched by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office on 17 July 2020. Since then the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances has access to activities ranging from Secretaries (AR and PG) to Chief Secretaries / Administrators of all Union Territories through video conference, call center and communication. The last date for registration and nomination filing was extended to 23 August in view of the state of COVID-19 epidemic.
About 702 districts registered and participated for the Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence in Public Administration 2020 which is 95 percent. Out of this, 678 districts have opted for the District Performance Indicators Program (DPIP). A total of 646 applications have been received under the innovation category, of which 104 are from central government organizations. 660 applications have been received under 193 state-level innovations and for district-level innovations.
48 districts have applied under Namami Gange and 81 out of 112 districts under the ambitious district program.
