Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday also inaugurated 11 new government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai via video conference. Addressing the program, the PM said, ‘Before 2014, there were 387 medical colleges in our country. But in the last seven years itself, this number has increased to 596 medical colleges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, before 2014, there were only seven AIIMS in the country but now the number of AIIMS sanctioned has increased to 22. “Before 2014, there were 82,000 medical undergraduate and post graduate seats. But it has been increased to 1.48 lakh.
The Government of India has brought many reforms in the medical field. Due to the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the poor have got an opportunity to get good and affordable health care. After 2014, the number of AIIMS has increased to 22. Along with this, several initiatives have been taken to make the medical education sector more transparent.
The Prime Minister said, the COVID pandemic has once again reaffirmed the importance of the health sector. Learning from the pandemic, we continue to work to ensure holistic, quality healthcare for all our countrymen. The PM further said, the future belongs to those who invest in the health sector.
