Rs 100 lakh crore scheme
PM Gati Shakti Mission is a Rs 100 lakh crore scheme. Its purpose is to do reforms in the field of infrastructure. Its purpose is to coordinate the ongoing infrastructure projects under different ministries and provide them the right direction. Under this mission, the government has brought 16 ministries on a single platform. These include important ministries like Railways, Roads and Highways, Petroleum and Gas, Telecom, Power, Shipping and Aviation.
Focus on multi-modal connectivity
Under the PM Gati Shakti Mission, synergy between important projects like railways, roads will help in strengthening the infrastructure. With this connectivity can be increased across the country. This will benefit the industry, trade as well as the common man. Logistic cost i.e. the cost of transportation of goods will come down. It will be possible to transport the goods from one place to another in less time.
The Central Government has also planned to build 11 Industrial Corridors and 2 Defense Corridors under Gati Shakti Mission. Under this, the target is to bring every village under 4G network coverage, expansion of the National Highway network to 2 lakh km, 220 new airports, helicopters and water aerodrome. The government also wants to build a network of 17,000 km of new gas pipelines.
Special emphasis is being given on multi-modal connectivity in PM Gati Shakti Mission. With this, people will get the option of different types of transport to go and come from one place to another. The emphasis is on multi-modal connectivity keeping in mind the geographical location and environment. This means that the use of metro rail is being focused on where it is practical.
Road projects are being focused in areas where road connectivity needs to be improved. Similarly, where railways is the most profitable option, the focus is on upgrading rail facilities. Where there is a possibility of increasing transportation by sea, the focus is being on the port.
