The completion of 18 irrigation projects pending for decades in the last four and a half years is a testament to the “Sankalp se Siddhi” of the BJP government. These projects are also changing the lives of lakhs of farmers by getting water to 20 lakh hectares of additional agricultural land in the state. These irrigation projects are going to play an important role in doubling the income of the farmers.
This is to say that the Water Resources Minister of the State Government, Dr. Mahendra Singh. Giving detailed information about other important irrigation projects including the Saryu canal project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Dr. Singh said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath’s government has worked for the prosperity of the farmers of every region of the state. Worked day and night. Referring to the Saryu Canal Project, the Water Resources Minister said that this project was envisaged in 1971-72. Work on it started in 1978. Earlier it was a two-district project, in 1982 it was extended to nine districts. He said that from 1978 to 2017, a total of Rs 5,189 crore was spent on this project, while from 2017 till now, a total of Rs 4,613 crore was spent by the Yogi government.

An additional 14.5 lakh hectares of land can be irrigated through this project, which will directly benefit about 30 lakh farmers. A total of 23,228 concrete works have been completed under the Saryu Canal National Project. Of these, only 10,365 works were completed from 1978 to 2017 while 12,863 concrete works were done from 2017-2021. The total length of 992 major and minor canals involved in this project is 6,623 km. Out of this, work was completed on only 290 canals with a length of 2000 km from 1978-2017 while 702 canals were completed in 2017-2021 with a total length of 4,623 km. The difference between how much work was done in four decades and how much work was done on this project in four and a half years becomes clear from these figures.
1.50 lakh hectares of land is being irrigated, which is benefiting two lakh farmers.
Giving information about the Arjun Sahayak Project, Dr. Mahendra Singh said that under this project started in 2008-2009, a total of 737 hectares of land was taken for digging the canal till 2017 while 1673 hectares after Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister. From 2009 to 2012 only 41 km of canal and from 2012-2017 only 14 km could be built while 189 km of canal was built from 2017-2021. In this project, only 11 pucca works were done from 2009 to 2012 and between 2012-2017 only 10 pucca works were done. The project was completed by completing a record 163 pucca works from 2017-2021. 337 crore was spent on this project with a total budget of Rs 2,655 crore from 2009 to 2012 and only 553 crore from 2012-2017, while the present state government spent Rs 1764 crore from 2017-2021 to reach it. The Water Resources Minister informed that the canal built over a length of 244 km from the Arjun Sahayak Canal Project will provide irrigation facilities to 69,000 hectares of land and will benefit 1.49 lakh farmers. The Water Resources Minister also discussed the Baan Sagar project in detail. Told that 1.50 lakh hectares of land is being irrigated by this project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, which is benefiting two lakh farmers.
