PuneIn Solapur, Maharashtra, the Railway Police has caught a couple traveling with the body of a 16-month-old daughter. Giving this information on Friday, an official said that the girl’s father allegedly sexually assaulted her and strangled her and the mother supported the husband in this.
The railway police caught both of them along with the girl’s body at Solapur station on Thursday from a Gujarat-bound train, the official said. He said the accused were on their way from Secunderabad in Telangana to their hometown in Rajkot in Gujarat to dispose of the body. Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl’s father (26) allegedly sexually assaulted her and then strangled her to death at his house in Secunderabad on January 3. The girl’s mother supported her husband in this crime.
According to the official, some alert passengers suspected that there was no movement in the girl during the journey and informed the ticket inspector about it. Additional superintendent of police (Railway Police) Ganesh Shinde said, “The co-travellers informed the ticket inspector on the train, then the railway police at Solapur station was also informed about it.”

He said that both the accused were dropped at Solapur station. “After the medical examination, the girl was declared brought dead. During interrogation, it was found that the father had strangled the girl to death after sexually assaulting her. Mother helped him in this incident. Thereafter, the family boarded the Rajkot-bound train as the husband and wife wanted to dispose of the dead body at their home place. ,
A case has been registered against the couple at Solapur Railway Police Station under relevant sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
