Mumbai: The 701-km-long Samridhi Expressway, connecting the state capital Mumbai and its sub-capital Nagpur (Nagpur), is now set to be opened by next September. It was told that 90 percent work of the first phase from Nagpur to Shirdi has been completed.
The deadline for starting this multi-purpose expressway being built through MSRDC (MMRDA) has been increasing. Work has also been affected due to Corona Pandemic. Work has accelerated after the second wave of corona is over, but now again due to the third wave of corona, work is likely to be affected. Although the first phase was set to start from Nagpur to Shirdi by the end of 2021, but now it is expected to start by September of this year.

Minister of State reviewed
It is noteworthy that the Minister of Public Enterprises Sanjay Bansode reviewed the work of prosperity project after meeting with the officials of MSRDC. It was informed that about 77 percent of the work of prosperity has been done in all the three phases, while the first phase of 520 km stretch from Nagpur to Shirdi is in the final phase, which may start from September. Work is going on in the second phase from Shirdi to Igatpuri and in the third phase from Thane. Minister of State Bansode has directed to expedite the work. The target is to start from Shirdi to Igatpuri and in the third phase to Thane by 2023.
701 km Green Expressway
Vehicles will be able to run at a speed of 150 km on the 701 km Green Expressway. With the introduction of the expressway, the distance between Mumbai-Nagpur will be reduced to just 6 to 7 hours.
Samridhi Expressway in 10 districts
This 3+3 lane expressway, being built at a cost of about Rs 55,335 crore, will pass through 10 districts, 26 taluks and 392 villages of the state. There will be 24 interchanges connecting different cities along the route. These include Thane, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Jalna, Aurangabad, Buldhana, Washim, Amravati, Wardha and Nagpur.
