The Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will pronounce the verdict on Wednesday after the completion of the hearing in the serial bomb blast case at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan in Bihar’s capital. All eyes are on the decision to come after eight years. Eight years ago, on this day, there was a massive explosion during Narendra Modi’s rally here. On October 27, 2013, six people were killed and over 90 were injured in a series of blasts in the Bihar capital.
However, despite these blasts, the rally also took place and Narendra Modi also addressed it. Serial blasts took place in BJP’s Hunkar rally in Patna. Narendra Modi was addressing the public in the rally going on at Gandhi Maidan. He was the prime ministerial candidate from BJP. The terrorists had taken him on their target. There was a blast in Gandhi Maidan as well as in the Sulabh toilet of platform number 10 of Patna Junction.
The investigation was done by the NIA from the very beginning of this case. During that time raids were conducted in many areas of Bihar and Jharkhand. After that, a total of 10 accused including a minor associated with the terrorist organization were arrested.
Chargesheet has been filed against these 10 accused by NIA in the year 2014 itself. All the arrested suspects were kept in Beur Jail in Patna itself. On Tuesday itself, the NIA team has taken care of the security arrangements. The team of Patna Police has been instructed to be prepared with utmost strictness.
Nine suspects of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) and one from the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were made accused in this case. The accused were identified as Numan Ansari, Haider Ali alias Black Beauty, Mohammad Mujibullah Ansari, Umar Siddiqui, Azharuddin Qureshi, Ahmed Hussain, Fakruddin, Mohd Iftekhar Alam and a minor whose identities have been secured.
The minor accused was sentenced to three years in jail on October 12, 2017 by the Juvenile Justice Board after being found guilty of involvement in multiple blasts. A police officer said that most of the accused are residents of Sithio in Ranchi.
According to the Bihar Police, this attack was carried out by Indian Mujahideen terrorists in the city on the day of the rally. He said that a total of 18 bombs were planted in the city. Five of these bombs were in the railway station premises, one of which exploded and one was defused.
Six blasts also took place at Gandhi Maidan, the venue of the rally. Bihar Police has so far arrested seven people in this case, one each from Samastipur, Aurangabad and Motihari, while 4 people were arrested from Ranchi. Police also recovered some SIM cards from Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, which were checked.
