India has underlined that every effort should be made to create a conducive atmosphere in restoring the dialogue between Israel and Palestine. India stressed that a period of meaningful dialogue can go on for long-term peace and stability in the region. Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly convened to discuss the situation in West Asia and Palestine, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations TS Tirumurthy said, “We are constantly insisting that immediate tensions are at the moment Is needed so that the link of violence can be broken. We call that any step that increases tension should be avoided. Also, one should avoid trying to change the status quo in a one-way way. ”
Tirumurthy’s remarks came amid an announcement of a ceasefire on Thursday after an 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas. The Gaza Strip has suffered extensive losses in this conflict. The meeting was called by UN General Assembly President Volkan Bojkir on Thursday to discuss the situation in West Asia and for the first time after the pandemic that began last year, foreign ministers of dozens of countries sat face to face.
Worried over continuing violence in the area
Speaking in the debate, Tirumurthy expressed concern over continuing violence in the area despite diplomatic efforts and the initiative of the international community. He said, “We condemn the rocket being fired from Gaza to Israel, which has led to the deaths of many ordinary citizens.” Unfortunately, India too has lost one of its civilians in these rocket attacks – Saumya Santosh, a nurse living in Ashkelon, Israel. “Thirumurthy said that death and demolition have also occurred in the counter-attack on Gaza.
Violence and demolition
He said, “In the current episode of violence, we are saddened by the loss of innocent people, including Indian citizens.” We once again condemn all actions of provocation, violence and demolition. “India insisted that recent events once again underscored the need to immediately restore dialogue between Israel and Palestine.
Meaningful dialogue required
Tirumurthy said, “Direct and meaningful dialogue will have to go a long way in order to restore mutual trust and establish long-term peace and stability. We believe that every effort should be made to create a supportive atmosphere to restore direct dialogue between Israel and Palestine. ”
