National Rail Plan 2030: Indian Railways has prepared a railway plan 2030. Under this plan, it has been proposed that freight can be cut by up to 30 per cent to increase the railway’s share in freight. Railways has set a target of increasing its share of freight to 45 per cent by 2030. Apart from this, it has been proposed in this proposal for bullet train corridors that it should be made more on those routes on which more number of passengers are getting. Apart from this, it has been said in the plan that ministries can be requested to bear the burden of subsidy on rent on passenger trains.
According to Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav, the final draft of the National Rail Plan is ready and it will be given to all the stakeholders. They all will send their proposal on this within a month and then the final rail plan will be revealed.

There is also a proposal to increase the speed of goods train
Railways aims to increase the share of freight to 45 per cent in the next 10 years i.e. by 2030. Currently, the railways’ share in freight is 28 per cent. Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said in a press conference that to meet this target, the focus will be on infrastructure and business development.
According to the Railway’s plan, due to significant upgradation in road infrastructure such as the Bharatmala project, the fares will be reduced to increase its freight share. According to the plan, the railways need to cut the freight by 30 percent and the speed of the goods train needs to be increased to 50 km per hour.
Ministry can bear the burden of passenger fair subsidy
In the document on the subsidy to be paid to the passengers, it is proposed that new methods should be adopted in a phased manner to reduce the burden of high operating ratios so as to finance the subsidy provided to the passengers. According to a proposal, other ministries may be requested to bear the subsidy burden. As such, the Ministry of Education can be requested to bear the burden of exemption given to students. Apart from this, help can also be taken from the state governments and local institutions for economically less profitable route of the railway.
Bullet train corridors recommended on heavy demand routes
In the draft plan about future bullet train corridors, it is proposed that it should be constructed only on those routes. On which a large number of passengers travel. This proposal has been made in the draft plan because huge investment is required in the construction of this corridor.
So far 12 high-speed corridors are proposed. Some of these are linking extensions that have been linked to the proposed high-speed corridors in other plan documents. Such as the line going to Jammu which has been extended to Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar Corridor to Pathankot and beyond. The scheme of bullet train between Nagpur and Varanasi which has been prepared by extending the Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur corridor. This will connect Mumbai directly to Varanasi through the Corridor.

Aim to increase coal transportation
Railways get the most freight from the transportation of coal. According to the Railway’s draft plan, its dependence on coal is going to decrease in the coming years because according to an estimate, there could be a negative growth in its transportation every year in the next decade. Despite this, according to the draft plan, in the next decade, the largest amount of coal is to be transported. According to Yadav, by the end of 2019, the railways had transported 1210 metric tons of coal in 4700 metric tonnes of freight baskets. According to the draft plan, the railways aim to have 2024 metric tons of coal in a 6400 metric tonne freight basket by 2024.
These projects will be completed soon
According to Yadav, the vision in the National Rail Plan will be to prepare the necessary infrastructure for 2024 metric tonne transportation by 2024. Multi tracking of 16373 km network will be done, 58 super critical, 68 critical, 46 high density networks, 46 highly utilized networks of 3262 km and 32 other important projects will be completed
Railways will complete 20 additional coal connectivity projects by December 2023 and 146 railway electrification projects will also be completed. By December 2022, the remaining work of 111 km Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla project will be completed and by March 2023, 288 km long connectivity projects of the Northeast will be completed.
Aim to increase speed on some routes
Vision 2024 also aims to increase the speed on some routes. Accordingly, a target has been set to increase the speed of trains on the New Delhi-Howrah and New Delhi-Mumbai route to 160 km per hour. Apart from this, the target is to increase the speed to 130 km per hour on the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) and Golden Diagonals (GD) routes.
2.9 lakh crore budget for Vision 2024
According to Yadav, the Vision 2024 is a part of the National Rail Plan and will cost about 2.9 lakh crores. GIS mapping of the entire network of railways is being done and according to the industries of the future, complete preparations are being made and a plan is being prepared as to what kind of commodities will require transportation. Railways aim to reduce costs to reduce transit time.

Three dedicated freight corridors of 3958 km
Three dedicated freight corridors of 3958 km have also been included in the National Rail Plan. It has 1115 km long East Coast DFC from Kharagpur to Vijayawada, 1868 km long East-West DFC of Bhusaval-Nagpur-Kharagpur-Rajkharswan-Andal-Dankouni and 975 km long North-South DFC of Itarsi-Nagpur-Vijayawada.
