The city council administration collects tax from the hawkers doing business on the footpath in different parts of the city, for this tax collection, the contractor was appointed after a one-year agreement. Recently, due to the termination of the contractor’s contract, the NAP has issued a tender for the new financial year, due to the doubling of the hawkers tax, the problems of the pavement businessmen are definitely going to increase.
Anger being expressed over the increase
For the last few years, the number of hawkers doing their small business on the footpath is increasing continuously, it includes various small businessmen like vegetables, fruits, fast food, cloth etc. The responsibility of maintaining cleanliness on the footpath rests with the city council administration. According to the place, the NAP administration collects hawkers tax from businessmen every day, but, this hawkers tax is being doubled in the coming financial year.
Still 7 lakh rupees outstanding on the contractor
Prior to this, the city council administration used to collect tax on its own at the rate of Rs 5 per day, but due to lack of regularity in it, the income was negligible, after that, on the experimental element, from January 1, 2021, the tender for recovery of 10 rupees hawkers tax for 3 months. 3 lakh 33 thousand rupees were taken out for it, full recovery was already done by the appointed contractor.
After this, for 2021-22, there was a tender of Rs 19 lakh 21 thousand at the rate of Rs 10 per day, but due to non-recovery, the NP administration has given information about the outstanding amount of Rs 7 lakh on the said contractor, although according to the agreement, the contract will be terminated. The NP administration has expressed the possibility of a full recovery from this for another 15 days.
Tender for 25 lakhs was taken out from the new
For the year 2022-23, the city council administration has taken out a tender of Rs 25 lakh, in which the hawkers tax has been increased from Rs 10 to 20, those whose shop is more than 10 by 10, they are going to be taxed at the rate of Rs 2 feet. Tender bidding was organized in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium of the Municipal Council, in which there was a fee of 1000 rupees and 10 thousand unclaimed amount, but at the last moment the Chief Officer ordered to cancel this auction and ordered to take online process soon. Authorized information about this is going to be given by the NP Administration.
Neglect of sidewalk traders
Most of the hawkers who do business on the sidewalk every day are 600 in number, they live around 800 on the weekly market day, despite paying taxes regularly, cleanliness is ignored by the city council administration, garbage in the dustbin for many days The hawkers are compelled to do business sitting in the dirt due to lying, there is a need to get proper justice to the pavement businessmen.
