Mumbai : As soon as the State Election Commission issued the notification to delimit the wards to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, it is now being speculated that the Municipal Elections will be held in February. Or in March. The draft plan sent by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to the Election Commission has been sent for suggestion objection without OBC reservation. It will take a total of 45 days from delimitation of wards to inviting objections and suggestions. So it has been decided that elections will be held in the first week of April.
Wards have also been reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the time of notification itself. In the elections held in the year 2017 also, 15 seats have been reserved for SC category and two for ST. This time, even after increasing 9 seats, no change has been made in it. But which of the 236 seats in Mumbai will be given to SC and ST candidates, it will be announced at the time of reservation. In the 2017 elections, 61 seats were reserved for OBCs. This time there is a possibility of elections without OBC reservation. The Election Commission official says that if the backward commission submits the list of OBC population to the Supreme Court before the reservation and the Supreme Court recognizes it, then seats can be reserved for OBCs before the seats are reserved.
