Sanjay Pandey is a 1986 batch IPS officer who is known for his clean image and crackdown on corruption and criminals. He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police during the 1992-93 communal riots in Mumbai. Pandey had come under attack from the ruling party for exposing a case of corruption during the 1995-99 coalition government. Pandey has been brought in as the Mumbai Police Commissioner in place of Hemant Nagrale. Nagrale has been transferred as Managing Director of Maharashtra State Security Corporation.
